Warning About Bogus Door-to-Door Collectors
Posted December 19, 2008
In the course of 2008, IDK received some alerts about bogus door-to-door collectors working for its “cause”. We would like to emphasise that we do NOT fundraise in this way, and never will.
Last April, Newstalk FM interviewed a Clondalkin man who was targeted by bogus collectors. The same two men had been active in Kells, Co Meath.
Our advice to anyone approached by “collectors” is to call the charity they claim to represent. Phone numbers can be verified in a book or online.
The safest way to donate to charity is through direct contact with the organisation, and not to give out bank account numbers at your front door.
UPDATE: On January 27, 2009, the Garda National Crime Prevention Office (NCPO) advised IDK that an individual had been arrested in central Dublin, in connection with this bogus collecting activity.
